| The VHF (Very High Frequency 30-300 MHz) communication technology will be adopted for the flights from Lhasa to Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, according to Tibet's Civil Aviation Bureau.
The project to set up a VHF communication service network started in Lhasa on Aug. 27 and is expected for completion in June 2010
Upon the completion of the project, the aviation safety and aeronautical operational control of Tibet's airlines will greatly improve.
During the past 44 years, less-advanced high-frequency communication technology was adopted as the only means of communication for the flight from Lhasa to Chengdu.
In addition, Tibet's plateau geographic environment and unique meteorological conditions cause poor connections on the plane as well, making communication signals unavailable sometimes.
