An earthquake measuring 6.9 degrees on Richter Scale hit Tibet at 16:26 Beijing Time Wednesday, according to the China Seismological Monitoring Network.
The epicenter was located at 32.5 degrees north latitude and 85.2 degrees east longitude, about 100 km away from Gerze in Ngari Prefecture in western Tibet.
No casualties have so far been reported because the quake-hit areas are remote, sparsely populated plateau areas with an elevation of more than 4,000 meters. |
