In fact, winter in Tibet is not as cold as most people presume, with the temperature in most parts of the tourism zones ranging from minus ten degrees Centigrade to ten degrees centigrade, so it is warm with ample sunlight. And the best time to tour Tibet in winter is from November to March in the next year.
According to Wang, sceneries of Tibet in winter are far more beautiful and magnificent than in summer. In winter, there are usually fewer rainy days, but more sunny ones. As the sunlight will be transparent, the snow-capped mountains and glaciers will reveal themselves more and be seen more clearly. The water in lakes and rivers will be clearer, and the cedars will look taller and straighter.

Traveling in winter also enables the tourists to avoid the peak season for tourism and enjoy greater discounts in hotels and scenic spots, thus cutting their travelling costs.
Nyingchi Prefecture is always regarded as the best choice for winter tour in Tibet. It is neigher too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. The area boasts many world-class scenic spots such as the grand Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon, Mt. Namjagbarwa, the iceberg cluster in Bome, Basongtso Lake, and the forests of Kulgling. Besides, many folk festivals are held in wintertime, which makes Nyingchi more attractive for tourists.
Last winter Nyingchi Prefecture received 24,000 domestic and foreign tourists. In January this year alone, the number of visitors to the prefecture soared by 146.8 percent from the same month last year.
