Highlights:

This is one of the two main routes of Sichuan-Tibet Highway which links the Tibetan areas of Western Sichuan with mainland Tibet. This route is longer than the southern route but less affected by rain during summer.

The journey goes through the wild, mountainous and remote Tibetan areas of Western Sichuan, you will be amazed to see that Tibetan culture is in many ways better preserved here. The route offers an insight to the culture, custume and tradition of Khama people and you will visit some big monasteries in Ganzi and Derge.

Because of geographical remoteness and poor infrastructure and facilities, this journey could be very tough and challenging.

You will start from Chengdu, visit Kangding, Tagong, Danba, Baimei, Luhuo, Ganzi, Dege, Chamdo, Dengqen, Bachen,Naqu, Namtso lake, arrive at Holy city Lhasa.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrival at Chengdu
Chengdu airport picking up, Check in and have a good rest. Overnight at Chengdu Jindi Hotel. 
 
Day 2   Chengdu / Luding / Kangding (376km, 6-7hrs)
Morning drive to Kangding, go through Er'lang Tunnel, along Da-du river. Upon arrival at Kangding, explore this town on your own, enjoy the mountain scenery and visit the local people. After dinner, enjoy a soak in the hot springs at Erdaoqiao(hot-spring fee on your own). Overnight at Kangding Gesa'er Hotel.
Tip: If time is allowed, we will arrange you to visit Muge-tso lake, which is about 26Km from Kangding.
 
Day 3  Kangding / Tagong / Bamei / Danba (250KM, 5-6hrs)
Morning cross over Zheduo Mountain, reach Xinduqiao, the ' the heaven for photography' , here you will see typical Tibetan houses, small streams, sheep & yaks on the grasslands, snow capped mountains ranges in a distance,,ect. After Xinduqiao, drive about 40KM to Tagong, visit Tagong monastery, enjoy the impressive snow peaks of Mt. Yalha (3890m) and Paojiashan (5400m). Afternoon upon arrival at Danba, visit Danba Ancient block towers & traditional Tibetan houses in beautiful Danba Valley. Overnight at Danba Gubao hotel.
 
Day 4   Danba / Bamei / Daofu / Luhuo (232KM, 5-6hrs)
Morning visit some other watchtowers at Jiaju villages in Danba valley, and then start driving to Bamei via Donggu scenic area, have a great view of the grassland meadow scenery in Bamei. Continue driving to Daofu, en route visit Huiyuan Temple. Daofu is very famoust for its local residences, white-painted wall, crimson column and exquisite carved windows. After Daofu, drive about 72Km further along Xianshui River to reach Luhuo, visit Drango Gompa, which is overlooking the whole Luhuo Town. Overnight at Kasa Hotel.
 
Day 5  Luhuo / Ganzi (100Km, 2hrs)
Drive from Luohuo to Ganzi, about 20km from Ganzi, pay a visit to Kasa lake. Ganzi is an important city on the northern Sichuan - Tibet road, in the afternoon you will be arranged to visit Garze Monastery and some other small monsteries around. Overnight at Ganzi Golden Yak Hotel.
 
Day 6  Ganzi / Manigango / Xinluhai / Dege(220Km, 5-6hrs)
Drive from Ganzi to Manigange, around 13km after Manigange is Yilhun La-tso ( Xinluhai), a stunning, holy alpine lake bordered by chortens and dozens of rock carvings. And you will have a chance to the huge glaciers of 6018m Que'er Mountain. Arrives at Gerge to visit Derge Bakong Scripture Pringing Press and Monastery.  Overnight at Derge Chola Hotel.
 
Day 7  Derge / Chamdo( 340km)                                         
Drive from Derge to Chamdo via Jomda, crossing the Jinsha river at the boarder and several high passes. Overnight at Chamdo.
 
Day 8  Chamdo / Jampaling Monastery / Riwoche(105km, 5-6hours)
Chamdo is the major transport, administrative and trade centre of the Kham region. In the morning visit Jampaling Monastery on the hilltop, do pilgrimage circumambulation. Then drive to Riwoche, cross over the Zholpel La pass(4688m). Overnight at Riwoche.

Day 9  Riwoche / Riwoche Monastery / Tengchen (185KM,6-7hours)
Morning visit Riwoche Monastery Tsuglhakhang, then drive on a rough road to Dengchen. Dengchen is the center of the Boen-Religion, which is a primitive religion based on ancient witchcraft and the worship to god and ghost, and was spread through the whole Tibet before the Buddhism was introduced into Tibetan area. Visit Tengchen and Ritro Lhakhang. Overnight at local best hotel. 

Day 10  Tengchen / Bachen /Sok (255km, 7-8hours)
After master Tsuri La Pass(4200m) and Shel La Pass (4750m) we arrive at Bachen, and continue about 30km you will reach Sok. Sok means Mongolia in Tibetan. Overnight at Sok.

Day 11  Sok / Nagchu (238km, 6-7hours)
Morning drive to Sok Tsanden Zhol village, visit Nyimpa sect monastery Sok Tsanden Gompa(sometimes it is impossible to visit this monastery). After that cross over two passes and reach the city of Shakchuka. Then another 100km with two passes, you will reach Nagqu. Overnight at Qiangtang Telecom Hotel.

Day 12  Nagchu / Namtso Lake (230km, 5-6hours)
Morning drive on the vast Qiangtang grassland to Namtso, cross the 5150m high Nagenla pass. Afternoon free walking along the lake. Tashi dor Monastery. Overnight at Namtso tent guest house.

Day 13  Namtso / Yangbachen hot-spring / Lhasa ( 250Km, 3-4hours)
Morning after the sunrise at Namtso, start drive back to Lhasa, en route stop at Yangbachen for hot-spring. Overnight at Lhasa New Mandala Hotel.
 
Day 14  Lhasa Sightseeing one day
Today you will visit the World Heritage Sites of  Potola Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkor Market, overnight at Lhasa. Overnight at Lhasa New Mandala Hotel .

Day 15  Lhasa sightseeing one day
The escorted tours today will cover some other highlights of Lhasa - the Drepung Monastery, the Sera Monastery, both of them are Gelupa Monasteries. And also you will visit the famous Dalai lama summer palace - Norbulingka. Overnight at Lhasa New Mandala Hotel.

Day 16  Lhasa airport / train station dropping off, end the trip.
